Late afternoon and the first starlings fly in before massing in the skies above Ham Wall Nature Reserve. At first they came in their hundreds, then thousands at a time, then tens of thousands, and finally up to a million swarmed together before dropping down to their chosen roosting place for the night. The numbers were probably greater in February 2014 because of extensive flooding on the Somerset Levels nearby.
