Red-breasted Merganser, summer plumage
This picture was taken in early evening light in June, near Elterwater, Langdale Valley, in the Lake District. Beautiful reflections were possible in this quiet pool on the River Brathay. It just required patience to wait for a Merganser to swim into the perfect spot.
