A Gannet amongst flowers, Bempton Cliffs
On a wet and windy day at the RSPB reserve at Bempton Cliffs in June, I saw hundreds of gannets flying in to their nesting sites on the sheer cliffs. These strikingly elegant birds have a beautiful ring of blue around their eyes, not easily seen at a distance. As I walked along the cliff edge several gannets flew in to their nests on a steep grassy slope which was covered in pink flowers in the foreground. I used these to make a lovely frame through which to focus on the gannet's eye.
