In early January 2013 fields on the south side of the River Thames at Lechlade, Gloucestershire, were still extensively flooded. Here we see several families of Mute Swans and their cygnets standing on the submerged footpath which runs along the bank of the Thames. As the sun sank low in the winter sky these swans were bathed in soft late afternoon sunshine.
