Housesteads Roman Fort
The north granary at Housesteads Roman Fort, or Vercovicium, close to milecastle 37 along Hadrian's Wall. The granaries are the most substantial remaining structures within the fort. The timber floor of the granary was raised on rough stone pillars (seen here) to keep the grain dry and partly protected from vermin. Hadrian's Wall is located on the edge of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
